On this page, we have prepared an overview of the most frequently asked questions that come up during the construction of a fibre network.
We want you to have all the information clearly in one place — from planning to the connection itself. We believe these answers will help you find your way around and know what to expect.
Frequently asked questions:
What is the purpose of the letter “Notice of fibre cable laying and start of excavation work”?
The aim is to find out whether you are interested in connecting your house to the fibre network in your location, so that we can set the construction schedule. It also gives us a contact for more efficient communication during construction.
What happens after I receive the letter?
If you are interested, get in touch with us so that we can then keep you informed by email instead of by letter.
How does the whole process of setting up a fibre connection to the house work?
If there is a valid zoning decision and an approved permit to occupy public land, the procedure is as follows:
- Excavation work for the backbone network.
- Bringing the tube (protective duct) into the house.
- Joining the microducts and preparing the route.
- Blowing in the fibre cable.
- Splicing the optical fibre and measuring the signal quality.
- Installing the service in your home.
The whole process, from the start of construction work to the final connection of the service, can take several months. The exact time depends on the size of the location, the availability of technicians, the weather and ground conditions.
Where will the main fibre backbone infrastructure run?
As standard, we choose the path of least resistance – most often we run the main route under pavements or grass verges, if the location allows it.
Will the ground be restored to its original condition after the excavation work?
Yes. After the work is completed, everything is restored to its original condition before the location is handed back to the town/municipality.
Will access to my property be restricted during construction?
Yes. Access will be restricted on the day the excavation work takes place in front of your house. We will start work in the morning so as not to get in the way if you need to drive out. We will agree on the exact time directly on site; if we do not find you at home, however, the time window is approximately 8 am – 5 pm. The trenches will be roughly finished the same afternoon and access will be open again.
I already have a tube/Kopoflex/protective duct laid. Can you use it?
Yes, in theory we can use it, subject to agreement with the technician during a personal consultation. We will be glad if you let us know in advance and check that it is not blocked.
What is a fibre protective duct and a fibre tube? What is the difference between them?
A fibre protective duct and a fibre tube are not the same thing, although the terms are often confused.
- A fibre protective duct is a larger protective pipe that protects the fibre cable or a bundle of fibre tubes.
It is used mainly in the ground, in trenches or when running the route into a building. Its main purpose is mechanical protection and creating a safe route for the cabling. - A fibre tube is a smaller inner tube – a microduct (we use a 10mm thick-walled plastic tube), into which we then blow or pull the optical fibre or fibre cable.
So it serves directly as the pathway for the fibre itself.
Simply put:
- Protective duct = outer protective route
- Tube = inner pathway for the optical fibre
A practical example:
A fibre protective duct may be laid in the trench, with a fibre tube running inside it, into which the fibre cable is then installed.
Where will the fibre route run on my property?
Generally, the route runs from the property boundary to the data wiring, ideally into the utility room. However, you will agree on the exact location with the technician on site during a personal consultation.
How deep is the fibre cable laid on the customer's property?
According to the customer's requirements.
What if I have paving or concrete on my property?
In such cases, we plan the route individually. If an existing tube/Kopoflex/protective duct can be used, we will use it. Otherwise, by mutual agreement, we look for a route that disturbs the surfaces as little as possible.
Do I need to be at home during the excavation?
It depends on where the excavation takes place.
- If the trench for the backbone network is being dug outside your property (for example in the street or in a public space), you do not need to be present.
- However, if digging is taking place on your property, the entry into the house is being made or the final installation of the service is under way, your presence is needed – for access, to confirm the route and to approve the work.
Will the optical fibre be brought all the way into the house?
Yes. The optical fibre will be brought all the way into your house. Once you order the service, we will lend you a converter free of charge, which makes the fibre connection work.
How is the construction scheduled?
The timing depends mainly on the weather and the size of the area. We always try to complete the work as soon as possible.
How long does the connection installation in the house take when you order the service after the construction work is completed?
Usually 2 - 3 hours, depending on how complex the cable route is and where the utility room is. It varies a lot from case to case.
Can the exact day of the technician's installation visit be set?
Yes. We will contact you in advance and agree on the exact day and the arrival time window to suit you.
Is the price of a service already agreed guaranteed for the entire term of the contract, or can it change over time?
The price of the service in your contract remains fixed and unchanged for the entire term of the contract, so it is not limited in time. The only exceptions are cases where the service was agreed as a promotional offer with limited validity.
Is the connection price a one-off payment?
Yes. The connection price is a one-off payment, starting from CZK 3,990, always set in advance and agreed individually after the site survey.
What does the price for “building and connecting the house to the fibre network” include?
It covers the complete commissioning of the connection – including blowing in and splicing the optical fibre all the way to the central distribution cabinet. The price is stated as “from CZK 3,990” because the final price changes if groundwork is needed.
How long do I have to commit to you for?
The contract is concluded for an indefinite period with a 30-day notice period.
What if I still have a contract with another provider?
No problem. We will help you with the switch.
During your notice period with your current provider, you do not pay us for internet services, for up to three months. The discount applies once you submit confirmation that you have given notice.
Can I cancel the service at any time?
Yes. The contract can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice period.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. All fees are always stated in the contract or in the price list.
Which plans are available at my address?
You can check the available plans at www.uvtnet.cz. After you enter your exact address, the plans available in your location will be shown.
If specific fibre plans are not shown (locations in planning/under construction), it means we are working on making them available – they will be available as soon as possible.
Do you also offer internet TV?
Yes, you can find the current offer on our website.
What devices are needed?
Once you order the service, we will lend you a fibre converter FREE OF CHARGE. You can provide your own Wi-Fi router or buy one from us.
Does the converter also have Wi-Fi, or do I need two devices?
There are also models with integrated Wi-Fi, but for much better coverage and a stronger Wi-Fi signal we use separate devices – a fibre converter and a suitable Wi-Fi router to go with it.
This solution ensures a more stable, faster and higher-quality wireless connection throughout the house. You can use your own router, or we will recommend a suitable model.
What internet speed does fibre offer?
It depends on the plan you choose and your location.
We usually offer speeds of up to 2,500 / 1,000 Mbps.
Is your fibre network open to other internet providers too?
Yes, our network is open to wholesale partners. At the moment, you can order our services, for example, through Vodafone Czech Republic, a.s. or partners of the association Kvalitní internet pro celé Česko.
Is a fibre connection safe?
Yes. Optical fibre does not carry electric current and is resistant to interference.
Will the weather or a storm affect my internet?
No. A fibre connection is very reliable – it is not affected by rain, snow, wind or storms. Optical fibre does not conduct electricity, so it is not sensitive to interference, voltage fluctuations or electromagnetic effects.
This makes fibre one of the most stable and safest connection technologies available today.
