Zbořený Kostelec is a village on the left bank of the Sázava river, about 1.5 km north of the town of Týnec nad Sázavou, of which it is one of eight local parts. On the opposite bank, on a rocky spur above the confluence with the Kamenický potok stream, lie the ruins of the Gothic Zbořený Kostelec castle, also known as Kostelec nad Sázavou. The Road 107 running from Kamenice to Týnec nad Sázavou passes below the ruins, and the ruins are also very clearly visible from this road.
